Generic shortcuts

1. Get help
Press [F1] in any application to open its Help menu. To access the Windows Help and Support Center, tap [Windows] + [F1].


2. File operations
Press [Ctrl] + [N] to open a new document, [Ctrl] + [O] to open an existing one, or [Ctrl] + [S] to save your document quickly.

3. Save as
There's no universal standard for opening the Save As dialog quickly, but try either [F12] or [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [S].


4. Close the document
Many programs make it easy to quickly close an open document - just press [Ctrl] + [W] or [Ctrl] + [F4].


5. Clipboard functions
If you want to copy an item to the clipboard, press [Ctrl] + [C], or press [Ctrl] + [X] to cut it instead. To paste it back into a document, press [Ctrl] + [V].
